I bought a very curly spider plant about 3 months ago. The leaves have now gone straight, just like the common spider plant. Love to know why this has happened.
Curly Spider plant
Ann
I have recently learned that too much watering can cause a Curly Spider plant's
leaves to go straight. I have a BIG one--and it is always very curly.
It is also several years old and I have NO plans to repot it.
They seem to want to go on the dry side in between watering.
A bit stressed. This will keep the curls in the leaves.
Also--as a reminder--
1--Spider plants form these "cloves" in the soil which store water.
In older plants, there can be so many of these "cloves"
that almost all the soil is displaced. Yet--the plant still thrives.
2--Also--a Spider Plant is a Dracena--and does not like salts in the water.
(like Chlorine). That is why they, get black tips on the leaves.
Depending on the size pot and the soil you used--the plant can go over a week
or more without watering. Longer if the plant is established.
You can tell by looking at it. If it has gone too dry , the leaves will have
a faded look to them--kind of grayish...a bit pale. This will change back to
green when you water your plant.
