CLOSED: Insect swarming around tomatoes?

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6a)

Any idea what these are and why they like the beefy tomatoes? I don't ever think I saw these before.

Thanks!

These look like fungus gnats in the family Sciaridae The tomato likely was just a handy place to meet and mate - their larvae usually are found in very damp soil high in organic content; they occasionally may damage very tender root and stems...

Very interesting. Thank you! I've never seen them before. I thought they were just mating since there is no damage to the tomatoes at all. Thank you!
