Hi I was just wondering if this was a false black widow spider. I live in the North West of England and they have never been seen this far North before.

It certainly appears to be a Steatoda sp., and several species in this genus are referred to as 'false widow' spiders - http://www.nhm.ac.uk/resources-rx/files/false-widow-identification-129901.pdf

Super, better a false one than a real one, I guess!
True! But these are apparently the most venomous in the UK, so I'm still a little worried :D
