We found this bug by our boat in Coralville, Iowa. I've never seen one like it. Can anyone help?
CLOSED: What is this bug that was by our docked boat in Iowa?
That looks like a molt (shed outer skin), perhaps from a dragonfly nymph. It would have emerged from the water to shed that skin and become an adult.
That is entirely possible. I didn't have the guts to touch it to see if it was alive.
Looked like molting to me too. But of what I'm not certain.
I believe it is a dragonfly nymph molt after reading the expert opinions here. Thanks!
I wish I were an expert :-p atleast I learned something!
