The fruit on this tree reminds me of a Chinese Empress Tree, but I've only seen that species in the winter without leaves.
What do I have here?
Nutty Tree
Seed pods definitely look like Paulownia.
Look at leaf arrangement - should be simple and opposite. The buds and leaf scars will be in the exact same places in the winter.
Look at dry seed pods - you already kind of recognize them, and they will be in the same place in the winter.
Look at bark - it will also be the same in the winter.
The only species you might remotely compare this with is Catalpa - but the bark is quite different and the seeds/pods are completely different.
That's Paulownia tomentosa - no question.
oh my. neefman, have you ever cracked open one of those pods? The number of tiny seeds is astounding.
