Can anyone tell me what kind of spider this is? I have found a couple in my house and in the garden recently.
Thanks
Serena
what kind of spider is this?
It's a comb-footed/cobweb spider in the genus Steatoda. Some species in this genus are called 'false widow' spiders - http://wiki.britishspiders.org.uk/index.php5?title=False_Widow_Spiders
Agreed. Probably a false widow. The mais differences between them are two: the color (the black widows are really black, and not brown like this one) and the behavior (the black widows do not live with others, they are very solitaire - while the false widow seems to be more colonial). Hope it helps. Sorry for my bad english.
