Something I shall never see...

Eau Claire, WI(Zone 4a)

...well, at least in my garden. The freakish fruit set on this V. plicatum 'Shasta' is impressive to say the least. I finally got one to make it through winter, only to have the top half snapped off when heavy snow on a metal-roofed shed came off in a mini avalanche.

Impressive, sure wouldn't mind that one in my yard.

ONE image....

Yes, I'm afraid just one image of this viburnum, but I thought you'd find some enjoyment from this sign at White Flower Farm retail store.

I like that - a lot.

And I'm nobody's grandmother...

Could the berries be in MY Shasta's future? Several pollinators of the same age are thriving on the same hill. This Shasta (in the middle) was a twig two summers ago. I am still planting dark green spreaders behind it. Acer "gingerbread" to the right and up is new this year.

Pseudo, that's one great sign...somebody was doing some thinking.

That's exactly what I thought when I first saw it. Not your typical retail nursery sign.

Rosemary, your Shasta is going great guns for having just been a twig two summers ago!

Rosemary I think that whole area of your garden is going to be really nice in just a few years.

Why, thank you for the really nice and encouraging comments. The amount of soil amendments to this sandy hill has been steady but when I think of it, staggering, because of the total quantity of mulch and humus going in. If there are any berries on Shasta, that will be a very nice bonus for an otherwise useful shrub. The hill was previously covered with euonymous alata and ugly Amur honeysuckles under a weakened mulberry tree. The privet hedge behind it all is still in my sights for replacement with an elevated blueberry bed, but not this year.
