should I cut back missouri primrose after transplanting?

Quakertown, PA

i just thinned out my missouri primrose and potted a lot of the larger transplants. they look ok (but i just did this today), they are well watered and in shade to settle in. my question is should i cut the tops mostly off? removing the seed pod and some leaves and stem to encourage the plants to give more attention to the roots? they have nice roots and runners. this is the first time I have thinned the beds. thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hi I am from Missouri and have Missouri primrose...rofl. But sadly still not an expect. But this is what I have found transplanting them. They are really hardy. I would cut off blooms, flowers take lots of energy. I really doubt it will make much difference but just my thought on the subject. I have taken lots of starts and given them away, don't remember ever losing any. My original missouri primrose I dug out of some rocks in the Missouri Ozarks where my Mom lived and it survived just fine. Naturally they seem to live here in poor soil, between rocks, and don't need alot of water.

This plant is extremely tolerant of abuse. What you've suggested is beneficial. When I got mine, they were torn from the soil by my grandmother-in-law, thrown into a grocery bag, and left in the hot sun for 1/2 a day. I promptly planted them when we came home from a weekend trip and watered them in. From what survived, we now have a 16 sq ft section of garden with this plant and it's only been 3 years later. You probably didn't even have to pot them up to move them.

One other suggestion don't plant anything yellow around them...rofl. They are just a bright yellow I don't think anything yellow looks good with them..rofl. Just my thoughts. I do really like them.
