Would like to put a name to this, any ideas Was about 12mm/1/2" long
CLOSED: Fly, Hoverfly?
This fly is in the family Conopidae and genus Myopa - see http://www.diptera.info/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=31381&pid=139099 for an example. They are parasitic on bees and wasps.
