This caterpillar is defoliating my Amorpha canesens (Lead Plant). Any guesses?
CLOSED: Caterpillar ID
Since it has a definite head & neck, I would say it is some sort of skipper caterpillar, but I don't which one. I planted my lead-plant as butterfly host plant - woody legumes are supposed to attract butterflies in the Sulphur family.
Not a skipper - this appears to be a black-spotted Prominent caterpillar (family Notodontidae) - http://www.pbase.com/spiffma28/image/137347616
I gather it turns into a nondescript moth. Too bad, and too bad it is one that aggregates and defoliates.
Flapdoodle Thanks for the ID
