Another good point, Sally. And, of course, there is the potential problem of someone misplacing their number with all the swapping and visiting going on.
Mid-Atlantic Fall Plant Swap
Does anyone have any Spigelia marilandica to share? Or a good place to buy Indian pinks?
I see that Plant Delights has it online, but I wasn't sure if it was a common nursery plant around here.
Gita, The number idea is good but I think it is just as easy to use names. I'll find someone that isn't doing the stepping stone project to keep the gift table running smoothly.
SSG, I ended up getting mine online. It's still quite small or I would offer to share with you.
I plan on coming!!!!! YAY!!! Afterward I need to drive to Annapolis to babysit for a couple of days.
I'm also looking for Lobelia cardinalis and Lilium canadense.
Catmint, oh please don't divide it yet! Thank you for the offer though. :) Did you get yours from Plant Delights? Oh, I just looked and Santa Rosa has it!
Jan, it'd be so good to see you!
It will be good to be seen. Hehehehe
SSG, I think it was Plants Delight. Very pleased with what they sent me.
YAY Jan!!
I'll second that!

SSG, Prairie Nursery sells 4" pots for $8.49. If you order 4 or more pots, the price goes down.
By comparison, Plant Delights sells 3.5" pots for $16!!
Oh, I might go with Santa Rosa, then. I'd have to wait until next year for delivery, but it's only 7.95, and they usually have a pre-order sale.
Is anyone interested in Hosta Francee? I need to replace it with something more colorful.
Some person or people wanted plumbago aka leadwort; please dmail and remind me. Jill, and ?
I too want Spigelia SSG. I bought one this spring from Plant Delights but unfortunately I broke off the stem when unwrapping it and unsuccessfully tried to root it :( I'll definitely be looking to get some for the spring though.
Oh that's too bad! And that was an expensive one, too!
Santa Rosa almost always has a pre-order sale in the fall, so you could get another one for as little as 5 bucks plus shipping.
I hear they're a great plant for hummingbirds.
adding small pots of this Blackeyed SUsan to my HAVES. Available in pretty much unlimited quantities. Basal leaves are smaller and thinner than what I think is run of the mill cultivated R fulgida. These are perennnial, flowers about 2-3 inches across, I think I grew them from seed collected along a bike path, so they may originate from 'wildflower' mix. FWIW.
Yeah I think I'll get two this time around. I want to try one in an all shade location and the other in a part sun location and see how each do.
Sally, I'm game for one or two of those BES. LMK.
Gotcha, Seq!
Sally, I'll take a couple!
I have a lot of BES starts as well (same as sally's). .
Been meaning to dig these up, and pot them up-as they are all along the
edge of the bed by my front door. God size too...
SS--we never got to this when you were just here....
Today is a good day to do this...overcast...not too warm...
Ask away! Gita
Thanks Sally :) G, just bring what you have, I'm sure all will find homes and if not, I'll take some more!
Yes, me please for leadwort Sally.
Gita, please make a note to include my weed eater. And remind me what I owe you for it! :-)
Jill--It is already so noted on my "Miacellaneous" to bring stuff in the
haves/wants Thread. With tax--you will owe me $26.50. What a deal!!!
OH--and here is some WISE advice from one of the men in the garden at HD.
***When using it--ALWAYS let the battery run completely down until it stops--is dead.
NOT still limping along ready to die and then putting it on the charger.
Reason?---
If you continue to charge a half-expended battery, it will "acquire some kind of memory"
and only charge half-way full in the future instead of fully charged.
I did not know that either....so I have already stuck it on the charger when it still
had some charge left in it. I have only used it 3 times--so I hope it is not all that bad.
This brings another question to mind.
***What if it has been fully charged and then unplugged and you do not use it
for a length of time? Some of the charge will have faded out--
SO???--What will happen if you "top it off" with putting it on the charger again
before you use it?
I will ask--but I am sure we have enough smart guys here to set all this straight.
G.
Worst case G is you buy a new battery. I have a 19.2V Craftsman cordless drill with two batteries. One battery is on the charger at all times between uses. When I need it, I take it off the charger and put the other battery on the charger. After I am done using the battery, I put it on the flashlight attachment and turn it on and leave it until it runs out completely. Repeat cycle...
Worst case Seq...some of those batteries are pretty $$$! We've destroyed our Black and Decker system of battery dustbuster and whacker. It was like you might as well buy a new appliance just to get the battery.
My sister has a cordless hedge trimmer that worked surprisingly well, Ryobi I think. Mark will know.
Jeff---
The trimmer I have, and that also Jill WILL have, cost ONLY $25.03+ tax
We got a slew of them in--already clearanced at $69. Then, after a while, it
went down to $45 and then hit the $25.o3.
I sold many of them to customers that were looking for a new trimmer.
By the time the price hit one cent --which is a dead end--and no one can buy it--
we were already sold out.
These trimmers (Black and Decker) came with TWO 12V batteries and the charger.
Yeah, I know, 12V is pretty puny...
Just ONE battery, if you bought it separately, costs $40!!! They may be higher Volt, though.
I bought several of these trimmers--as people asked me to pick some up. ...Like--I am
always letting you Folks know when i find some great deals.
Jeff--I do not have another appliance I can put the used battery on.
Where else can that be done on to drain it completely?
Thanks--Gita
Other than taping the trigger to 'on', I'm not sure of another way to completely drain it.
Just so you ladies know (if you don't already), when you get new cordless tools, lithium ion batteries are always better than nickel cadmium. L-ion batteries do not have a memory charge, you can use them longer, they take less time to charge, and when they run out of charge, they simply quit working, not a slow death like the Ni-Cad batteries.
I have to make another correction--the batteries are 18Volt--NOT 12Volt
as i stated.....I do not see the word "lithium" anywhere--.
One plus--the batteries that come with this can be used on many different
B&D tools. This trimmer also has a 2 year
OK! hope I have it all straight....
Finally realized the edit problem has been fixed, so I've updated my "Haves" on the "Haves/Wants" thread. So far I have scuttelaria ovata, epidmedium noid pink, obedient plant 'Vivid', and phlox divaricata. I'll see what else I can dig up and divide over the next few weeks.
Aspenhill, I'd love to try your noid pink epimedium!
Same here Aspen, if you have enough. Also what type of sun exposure does your skullcap get? MOBOT says full sun but North Creek says full/part shade.
Thanks, Gita!
Yes, I've been trying to go with LI batteries when possible... but for $25+ I figured I'd see what I could do with a lightweight cordless.
Jim got the "Kobalt" electric lawnmower from Lowe's at the beginning of summer, with Lithium Ion batteries. (He loves it) I can get a weed whacker that uses the same battery system, but it's about $150 (including battery; don't know if it's sold separately). If it goes on some great sale over the holidays, though, I may have a nice little B&D string trimmer to unload, LOL.
Aspenhill: If there are any epidmedium noid pink left, I'd love to get in the line. Ditto for scuttelaria ovata.
Ok, got ssg, sequoia, and happy for the epimedium. I think I may be able to have one more division, but that should probably wrap that one up. For the scuttelaria ovata, I have it in one of my sunnier locations, although it does get some partial shade, and it has been doing fine. Got happy for one, possibly sequoia, and will have lots more available.
I think I'll pass on the scuttelaria Aspen and thanks for the NOID epimedium; it will be my first ever :) Do they spread nicely?
I'll take his Scutellaria ovata, (heaven help me for taking any new plants, but it's native and pretty)
Was there want of Peanut butter shrub? I think I've found three suckers so far.
I have a PB shrub all potted up. It came from the spring swap.
I finally put my HAVEs out. Want to add Lysimachia punctata 'Alexander' , but cannot edit the post. It is now giving me a blank field.
Donner, you have to copy what you already have, then hit edit, paste, make your changes, then press send. Melody tells me that it's the apostrophes that are messing up their system right now.
