Worm like thing?

Sister found this strange thing in a small bowl of water on the porch any clue as to what this thing is:

About 12 inches long and as thick as 4 strands of hair and wraps around the pick.

This appears to be a nematode-like worm known as a horsehair worm - they are parasites on many different types of insects and other arthropods, but are harmless to humans - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nematomorpha
