I grabbed this leaf off a branch while jogging. The fruit smelled wonderful and had a slight fuzz to it. It was soft but still hard to crack open. What do I have here?
Thanks!
Fuzzy Fruit ID
Probably a Hickory species of some sort (Carya sp.) - of which Pecan is a member.
Would be nice to see more of the tree (and the whole compound leaf)...
You could also show the cracked open seed - that is evidence as well.
Manchurian Walnut Juglans mandschurica (Japanese Walnut is very similar, but usually has globose, not elongated, nuts)
Resin
Awesome. I've never seen this species before; is it more common around where I live than I think?
