CLOSED: Help identify this insect, please

Sumter, SC

My kids found a bug in our home that we cannot identify. We have an image of it before it flew away and have looked all over the Internet for something like it and not found anything. We live in Sumter, SC, don't know if this information is pertinent. It was on the side of the house. At this point we are looking to be educated on what this creature was. Thank you for any help you can offer. We just want to identify the insect.

Could you use your photo editing tools to bring out the actual color(s) of this moth and then repost the image? It is too dark for me to see any useful detail, and I can think of species in at least three different families that could have a similar overall appearance...

I will try

Looks like it's in the family Notodontidae (prominents) - see
