This is stuck to the back of one of my morning glories. What could it be?

coccon or poop?
There are some beetles in the family Chrysomelidae that feed on members of the morning glory family whose larvae 'disguise' themselves with their own feces, but if that were the case here, I certainly would expect to see some evidence of feeding. But as I see no chewing damage and if it does not move, suspect poop...
