Hello,
Does anyone know what these small white bugs are?
One of my dahlias was dying off, I thought the tuber might be rotting so I dug it up and found these small (size of small grains of sand) just beneath the soil line on the plant stem.
Thanks in advance for any help identifying these little monsters.

small white bugs on stem of dahlia at soil line
These look more like mites than insects - see the center image at http://www.redwormcomposting.com/images/mites.jpg
As such I suspect these more likely are scavengers on the rotting tuber rather than the cause of its demise.
