Yikes, you'll sleep good tonight :)
Yardening June #2, 2014
Yikes, Holly!!!
I walk around pulling up little maple starts and Oxalis....
Your weeds are killer-size!!!
I was outside 5 hours today--came in to sit here and catch up.
I was determined to clear my big patio table of "stuff'....planted a few things-
and put some left-over stuff in trays and elsewhere.
Holly--since you asked for Swedish ivy--I finally got to trimming back (totally)
my oldest HB of it. It is so miserably root-bound--but is grows big and lush anyway.
SO--I started 2-10" HB's with new cuttings --as well as a tray-full of 4" pots.
Anyone doing cuttings and making new pots---PLEASE know that--3 cuttings
in each finger-hole always make a lush HB or pot. Never stick just ONE cutting in.
I have a second, HUGE HB of it growing away. This one is also a few years old--
but I have to let it grow--as --IF I take any more cuttings--I will have to open a shop!
1--Here is the old one I just decimated..Yeah! I KNOW it will grow back...
2--The tray of cuttings--there is 9 cuttings (3 bunches of 3) in wch 4"pot.
(The cuttings on the right are Foxgloves...)
3--The chopped up pot--re-growing...Someone can then have it.
4--The one I will have to keep--this one is the other older Swedish ivy HB.
Should give this one a hair-cut as well--but I don't want to be stuck with
4o pots of Sw. ivy.
G.
I am forever baffled WHERE this plant went??? I have NEVER seen it in stores--
at least not this original variety. I know there are now others--but this one,
with the shiny leaves, is the "real" one....at least to me.
3--Here's the one I already have.....it is also root-bound, but it doesn't seem to matter...
I really do not have room for 2 of these in the house for the winter....
Got a new rack for plants at IKEA. Put it together just now--UGH! hate doing that!
But--I need a second rack for small plants outside--as all my zillion Spider Plants
are all still inside. Can't deny them fresh air and some better light.
This rack is fairly heavy-duty--but NOT heavy. It is black metal with a dull finish
that looks like wrought iron.
Very sturdy--the shelves can pop off if you need more space.
The shelves have tiny, round holes all over--so water can drain.
It is a NEW item at IKEA this year. 5' tall and 2' wide. $49.99
Gita
Gita, Like that rack
Me too.
I finally bit the bullet and started putting plant label markers out in the garden. It was starting to get on my nerves that I wasn't sure which cultivars were where. The markers don't look as bad as I thought they would. Need to go out and water where the irrigation system doesn't reach. I hate dragging hoses around UGH.
Holly, HAHAHA!!! priceless.
Nice plant rack Gita. Next time I visit, I can take a couple (COUPLE, mind you) Swedish ivy small pots, my office has a couple people who might take them. I wish I could replace most of the plants in the library, most are hangiing on miraculously in ancient 'soil', but I'm afraid it will hurt the feelings of the 'senior' plant lover there.
Terri, I hate dragging hoses too. Blecch!
I hate dragging hoses too, yucko! But, I had to do it for a bit when I got home today 'cause the babies were looking a might thirsty. (so was I when I was done, GOSH it's hot out there!).
Had a few productive hours yardening this evening.
Mike put TomatoTone around the tomato plants. We grew these from the seeds I got at the seed swap. I planted 30 and gave at least 30 more away. They are HUGE already and tomatoes are starting to appear.
I did some weeding and got that dreaded watering done too, and am now done for the evening. Ready to relax :)
Love your hammock photo, Sally! :-)
