These are dark, blackish, plentiful, and all over the backs of my sunflower heads! Are they harmful? Should I do something? What are they? I didn't see them moving, but there sure are a lot of them. Thanks!

These are aphids (plant lice) - try washing them off with a strong stream of water from a garden hose or an application of an insecticidal soap...
Thanks flapdoodle, I didn't think aphids looked like this but I guess they do. I'll do what you said. We have ladybugs here and there, that should help too right? I'm wondering how we have this many aphids with ladybugs around.
Some species of aphids can reproduce so rapidly (basically being born pregnant) as to outstrip their predators...
