I think this is an egg ... I found these on the underside of the leaves of my holly bush. Only the ones closest to the ground. I was pruning and noticed when putting in my compost. Now I'm thinking I should take the leaves out of the compost and discard in the trash. These are flat eggs, half inch long, white and woolly. Any ideas what bug they might belong too?
CLOSED: insect egg I.D.
These are not eggs, but more likely are scale insects, such as the cottony Camellia/Taxus scale (Pulvinaria floccifera) -

Try washing them off with a strong stream of water from a garden hose, or apply an insecticidal soap.
Thanks Flapdoodle!
Hi: I'm learning to garden in dessert So California. It's quite a learning curve for a Chicago girl! I noticed these white blobs (like whipped cream) on my salvia (I think it's salvia; I didn't plant it.). An image is attached. Is that normal or is this a bug issue? Thanks lovely people, for your help.
PS I was delighted to see my beloved purple cone flower is very happy in this climate and my rocky soil! Yeah.
See your other post...
