I know there are some trees that we should not plant near our homes, such as certain willows, tulip trees, etc but I never knew of the Indian Laurel Fig (Ficus microcarpa nitida). I just read that about 50 years ago housing contractors planted these trees throughout southern California and are now paying the price. In one case the roots had stretched up the driveway, into the garage, out the back door and into the patio (some 60') rupturing concrete, underground utilities etc. So be warned please, the havoc this thing can cause is tremendous.
