What a lovely rose. I have long admired it, but our climate can't support it.

I took this photo just yesterday - way at the end of its season.
So I'm looking forward to getting better shots this summer.
Weather wise we are so lucky here in NZ that pretty much most things grow.
Thank you for your comment, DonnaMack.

I have dear friends who moved to Timaru almost three years ago. They love it.

Please keep posting your pictures!

Timaru is rather colder than here in Waihi in the North Island.
Thank you, I sure will!

Ah, I show my lack of knowledge of your beautiful country.

They are growing lots of fruit trees and they do have a conservatory. There was a thriving Roserie de la Hay. They are Brits who came to America some 23 years ago with the intent to relocate after 20 years, which they did. To New Zealand.

It looks like Paradise!

Everywhere nature is - is paradise!
We have a beautiful world. I would love to see more of it!

I have seen some lovely places. Acadia in Maine, the Redwood Forests of northern California, the grounds around the Biltmore Estate in Ashville, North Carolina, Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon. And I marveled at Paris in the early 80's.

But the place I would most like to see now is New Zealand. Right behind that is Bath, England (shades of Jane Austin!) and Mottisfont Abbey, which inspired me to acquire 'Constance Spry'.

I would love to visit all those places too. I'm sure you will get to these other places as well!
'Constance' is so beautiful. It is one I have not yet grown myself.

It only blooms once, but for many weeks. I lost two doublefile viburnums to a brutal winter, and this was one time when I learned that a loss can be a gain. Constance Spry reached this size in three years. On the right is another big rose that is not supposed to be zone 5a hardy but is, the Bourbon rose 'Zephirine Drouhin.'

This was my yard in Lake County, Illinois. Which Forbes called one of the ten worst placed to live in America (actually, it was ninth) because the foreclosure rate was 29%. Tons of people in my community simply walked away from their homes. I managed to put together a short sale and escape. I have been rebuilding my garden ever since. Oddly, since no one is buying houses, plant material costs about as much now as it did in 1998. The discounts are incredible. I had 23 roses then, and I have 28 now - including these two.

That's my neighbor's house in the background. I'm a big believer in incorporating other peoples' expensive stuff in to your design. The grey house was a terrific neutral for my cool color scheme, and the arbor made a great backdrop!

What a gorgeous garden - you are a true gardener, and a stronger survivor by the sounds of things.
You are to be congratulated!

'Zephirine Drouhin' is another lovely rose that I have not yet planted in my garden. Having said that, I get to enjoy all of these wonderful roses in other peoples' gardens through my photography!
Isn't it amazing how the same plants can be seen all around the globe if the conditions are ok for them.

'Zeph', as I like to call her, is a really wonderful rose. I didn't think I could grow it because it is reputed to be a zone 6 rose and I was in a 5a climactic zone, but a rosarian in St. Louis strongly advised me to plant it anyway, and I did. Most people grow it as a climber, but it makes an outstanding shrub! It will take three years or so to bloom, while it pumps out foliage and puts on size. But it blooms for months. I actually put mine on the northeast corner of my former property.

I recently purchase 'Kathleen Harrop', a sport of Zeph, so now I have both!
