Please help ID this insect

Brooklyn, United States

I've been getting bugs bite while I sleep. They are EXTREMELY itchy and get very swollen and have a burning sensation. After searching my bed several times over several days, I could not find any evidence of any bugs whatsoever. Then one afternoon after taking a nap I found a few of these little insects in my bed. I am guessing these are the culprits? These were the best pictures I could get, they are very small. Please let me know if you have any ideas on what these are and if they are the culprits, how to get rid of them. Thank you.

These appear to be fungus gnats; they are incapable of biting...

Not to freak you out, but bites that appear at night but no bugs in sight suggests the possibility of bedbugs, and there have been increasing outbreaks in U.S. cities including New York. The bedbugs hid in tiny crevices during the day and generally can't be easily found, though the do leave discolorations and shed exoskeletons around eventually.

Thanks @ ssipes. Yea bedbugs were my initial concern but there is no trace of anything. Literally torn my bed upside down several times with a flashlight and magnifying glass. Nothing. It's mysterious. Got home the other day and sat in bed for 20 min, ended up with 5 bites. When the bites are fresh they have 2 little dots, like fang marks. Didn't see anything. About to blow up my bedroom with a bug bomb.
