CLOSED: What is this? Appeared on fence post overnight!

Appr 2 inches across, appeared overnight, on my fencepost to the chicken coop. I'm guessing a cocoon? I'm not from the NW, and have never seen anything like it. Thank you!

It really looks like a slime mold (of which I was previously ignorant)! Thank you very much. A fungus capable of locomotion? Crazy, wonderful world. ;)
