We have one tree providing shade for our backyard deck: a 60 foot tulip poplar. We remodeled this home last year and the trucks, etc. drove under it many times packing down the earth. The tree looks stressed. There were many buds but only 50-60% opened to leaves. There are a few dead appearing branches. The leaves that did evolve look ok. It is June 1st. Will anymore leaves form? We placed fertilizer pegs all around the roots last fall and this spring. Is there hope for its survival? Can I plant another tree very close to this as a backup and which one might work: need it to grow quickly yet thrive in the shadow of this tree? I am trying not to block a view from our windows yet provide deck shade so it is a bit tight. THANK YOU.
