Every day I'm clearing up more and more dead beetles in our bedroom at the front of the house. They are clambering over everything! Does anybody know what they are? They sort of look like soldier beetles, but I'm hoping they aren't anything dangerous or annoying. It's a mystery how they are getting in but they seem most numerous by the front window, and they don't seem to be able to walk on carpet as they are all alive but I always find them on their backs trying to turn over.
Any help would be much appreciated,
Robin Thakur
Mystery beetles in the bedroom
This looks like a beetle in the family Oedemeridae known as a wharf borer. Their larvae usually are found in very damp/waterlogged or rotten wood; they do not appear to attack sound, dry wood/timber - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wharf_borer
