Our tricolored beech tree isn't looking very healthy. Lots of spindly, twiggy branches crossing over each other with dried-out buds. Leaves are mostly at the ends of the branches, and they are much sparser than last year. I see no signs of bark or leaf damage or insects. Should I prune out some of the thin branches? This tree is about 9 years old and 12 feet tall. We've gotten plenty of rain, but we did have a late frost. Other tricolored beeches in our neighborhood look great. So what's going on with this one?
