Hi everyone, I have been lurking around for too long so thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Dan and live and grow in the Texas Hill Country, not far from Johnson City. I enjoy gardening for butterflies, and try to include many native plants in order to do so (though I'm definitely not a purist.....I have castor beans next to the giant coneflower).
My question is, has any of my fellow Texas gardeners grown Joe-Pye weed? Though I'm from Iowa originally, I saw a magnificent Joe Pye specimen once growing in a ditch in Kentucky years ago and it was covered in butterflies. I realize they're not native to central Texas, but given the right conditions, is it worth a shot?
Thanks in advance for any responses, and again, greetings!
Hello everybody! Intro and question....
Welcome to the Texas forum Texnerd, I think you will like it here.
Joe-Pye weed is not native to Texas, but it is very appealing to butterflies.
I hear that it likes lots of water, but I think you should be able to grow it in your area with the proper care.
This might help.

Hi Dan, welcome !
You will find lots of information, advice,
friendship and partners in crime here.
Although some of us are really into natives,
most all will try anything we can get our
hands on !
We don't discriminate.
I have always wanted to try Joe Pye weed,
but my list of desires is very long !
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.
