I may be wishful thinking; my goal was find this species today growing wild. The first pic was the first tree I looked at so I'm thinking I couldn't be that lucky. The other pics i took of this specimen turned out terrible, so this is all I got. The second two pics are of a different young tree that I'm thinking might be a hickory of some sort.
Are Either of These Black Tupelo Trees?
First one wild cherry- Check the bark, and look for ugly black gall on a branch.
I can tell tupelo by very horizontal thin branches
Second one I think you are right with some hickory. ... I am checking for opposite V alternate. I'm not totally sure what I see there.
