Pests: Need help-woodchuck invasion!

Mason, MI

HELP! Does anyone have any tried & true methods
of woodchuck removal? We've always had woodchucks.
The digging's great for them here, it's all sand.
But this fall has been the worst! They're digging right next to our home's foundation. They've disconnected our phone line twice this past fall. 'Not good!
We're up against some smart 'chucks this time.
We've tried live-traps, leg-hold traps, etc.
We just can't get this 'chuck---
we just keep finding more freshly dug holes.
He's already dug right where my Fall Crocus WERE,
(they're gone now, right down his hole)
and my newly planted Jeruselum artichokes
(in another flowerbed)...
I've lost all patience with this woodchuck,
I'm not a "happy camper".
If you've got something that has worked for you,
please, would you let me know?
Thanks,
Melissa

Melissa
Try a Remington Model 870 with some # 5 shot.
Works everytime.

Those buggers ate most of my tomatoes last year.

Melissa: Ahh!!! We had the same problem this summer with one that insisted on digging right along the foundation, he would dig his hole, my hubby would fill it up, on and on. He ruined my big bleeding heart and sweet cicely, by constantly burying them with dirt. We put Pine-sol around the foundation of the house in the dirt. That did deter him for awhile. You have to redo the pine-sol every couple of weeks, plus I don't know what it does to plants. One day we saw him climbing the pear tree, they love pears. My husbands 22 rifle took real good care of him for good that time. He is now pushing up daisies, instead of eating them.

What about some Castor Bean plants?? I mean I know they deter Moles/Voles but it might just work for the woodchuck too. If you want to try some, I have plenty of seeds just let me know!

I knew that you folks would have some good ideas!
Thanks!

Sis-I'm going to the store tomorrow for mothballs.

MaVieRose-Thanks for the hyperlink on woodchucks.
'Interesting to know just how much dirt they move...
Too much!

Paulgrow, Dori & Debby-I lost my two sharp-shootin' boys
to college. A few weeks ago, while standing outside
saying goodbye to my oldest (as he was getting ready to head north) we heard
the live-trap spring shut just outside our barn.
My son didn't say a word, just grinned and went to
get the '22. Now, often-times you can see my husband
(while mowing) riding his lawnmower cradling the '22.

Mollybee-I'm going to look into the Castor Bean plants.
As a matter of fact, I think that Dori has already sent me some seeds! I'm all set!
Thanks everyone,
Melissa :-)

Melissa; Dear oh Dear aren't those suckers something, we have had them many times...One way, if you can plug the holes with rags, or what ever. Leave one open. Back car or truck around and put hose in exhurst.and put in hole....Kills them dead...Also water hoses will flush them out, stand by with shovel...and hit them in the head....Our neighbors has one...right now...Waiting for all the summer people to leave the lake, so we have the 22 ready and waiting.......He will be gone......Good luck..Wantabe...
