CLOSED: I don't think it's a ladybug...

Citrus Heights, CA

So, this bug thing has been on this leaf for about a week. My husband swears it was a ladybug larvae that was turning into an adult ladybug. The colors kinda look like a ladybug but the texture is not smooth like a ladybug...the black parts are actually bumps and it seems to be stuck to the leaf. I think it's a cocoon of some type...hubby still thinks it's a ladybug...what do you guys say?

This is a pupa (resting/transition stage between larva and adult) of a lady beetle...

This is a picture I took of the stages in my yard they were all along a rock border in the crisp morning. I suppose to get heat from the rocks.

I want to ask Flapdoodle, does the stages go from left to right in this picture?

@Sheila_FW - Basically, yes - you have two larvae of different sizes on the left, and three pupae on the right...

Thanks appreciate the info!
