What landmarks are there when you get close to the park ?

Do we need ice ?

OK, tks Jo, I had put EAST randol mill
on mapquest & it had us in front of the
Ballpark, now I see where we need to be... it just didn't look right before !

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

Becky, I may be a wee little bit of an overachiever, lol! Just want to make sure I'm not being a mooch, I'm sure I'll be the one with the smallest plants! And artichokes on the side it is :))

Ahh so excited! Okay back to work! LOL

Dallas, TX

Baja - I was going to bring ice but not sure I'll have room for an ice chest. Plus I'd have to see if I could borrow an ice chest. I could buy ice as I approach Randol Mill if anyone has something to put the ice in. LMK.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I will bring a cooler and a 32ct btld water iced with two bags, it would hold more I am sure.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

SPWD You can get smaller plants like the seeds I am bringing you...smallest you can get Rotflol

I am really excited. Just got back from a plant trade in Houston. Got a few nice things.David won a 20 GC from a barbque place and we had lunch before coming home and I won a NOID 4 ft Plumeria. Got rid of lots of plants and brought some home. Alot of traders just brought cuttings not wrapped or potted and lots in water. I have alot to pot before I am done for the day. Funny to see how some do trades like ripping from the ground and bringing or just cutting and bringing.
Not bad but I live an hour away and hoping they will survive.
Lots of great people there. I love the visits more than plants. I need to make a sign for next time saying I don't need any trades. Most didn't understand that as they thought they had to have something I wanted. Had a really nice time. Now off to tend to what I brought home. David in bed as he worked last night and GY's tonight and 8 hours tomorrow.

Can't wait to see all of you. I ma not bringing any extra plants sorry as no room for mine and Marty's. I have everyone's ready to come. Hurray!!!

I have the rolls and a 2 liter diet coke and 1 2 ltr regular coke.

Dallas, TX

ILJ99 - Sounds like you had quite a day! Anyway, bring what you can but don't wipe yourself out in the process. The fun part is getting to know all the peeps. BTW, don't tell anyone, but my parents actually named me Joan.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Ok Joan it is our secret :) I am Sandy :) shhhh

I am ready for tomorrow as I made sure that stuff was ready first :) ANd love love love the peeps

Fort Worth, TX

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Rancho Santa Rita, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks to everyone who made this such a wonderful happening.

It was FABULOUS !!!!

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Sandy and I made it home fine and I didn't even hit a single car on the way home!!!!!! Just had a wonderful time as usual. Loved seeing you all again and the new people... so good to meet you. I look forward to future good times with you. Did y'all notice that we now have two traditions? Sopapilla cheese cake and fruit salsa. I always leave you all with such a good happy feeling. Rancho Santa Rita, TX(Zone 8a)

for the plants & fun !

Becky Guerra

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Just walked in and took brat out to potty. I had a wonderful time and so happy I came. Food great but my DG friends GREATER!!!! I cam home smiling from all the hugs and great time. See you in the fall if Marty will have me again :)

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Marty and Sandy, I am glad you got home safely, you girls are heroes coming such a long way.
This group is pretty special.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Awww not heroes ...we just love or DG Buddies. Plants are fun but ALL of you are alot more fun. I love all of you and over the past few years was really sick and so good to be among some of the finest people in Texas or on our beautiful planet. :) (((((HUGS)))))

I was joking and said we should get a prize for driving the farthest but Josephine you and all the people there are the PRIZE!!

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Thank you Sandy, you are a sweetheart.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Thank you :)

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

If I remember correctly Sandy, you got the prize you wanted and another to boot! LOL ;-)

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

Sandy it really was so great to meet you, and Marty too! I do wonder if you got any funny looks on the drive home? I'm sure Marty's car looked like a mobile rainforest! And I just heard from the inlaws that port aransas has heaps of seaweed on the beach again, so hub approved me for 2 contractor bags full, and no more! LOL

I may have to liberate a few feral palms while I'm at it.. Oh sookie, don't tell anyone!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Becky, you're a riot!! What are you going to do with the seaweed? Why would you want a palm? They don't really do well up here.

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

The seaweed is gonna get thoroughly rinsed and dried. Some of it is getting crunched up and tilled into my garden plot this winter. Some will be added to my compost heap, and whatever is leftover will be soaked for a few months and the resulting "tea" used as a liquid fert. Can't wait to try it!

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

Oops I got trigger happy and forgot about the palm, there are some (fan?) palms I remember seeing peppered through abandoned lots down in PA, and if any are small enough, I want 2 for containers on my porch. If they don't make it I'll be bummed, but they really were everywhere so I don't feel guilty as if they were endangered or rare. That's a no-go situation for me. But since I've seen quite a few growing happily around here, I wanna give it a go. :)

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

SPWD if you can't get a palm let me know as they grow wild around here (the ones you are talking about) and I will try to get one really son for you for the fall RU

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

Sandy you're a doll! I'll let you know :))

Rancho Santa Rita, TX(Zone 8a)

I also want palms, but in the ground.

Why ? because I can, but also because they
remind me of home.

I grew up in the palm city !

There are quite a few that thrive in our climate.

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

Is that Palm Beach, FL, Becky?

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

The palms I have access to grow wild here and they do not look like the one in Baja's picture. They don't have a trunk the fronds just grow out of the ground. Maybe someone knows the name. I Googled everything I could think of and found a few really bad pictures.

Rancho Santa Rita, TX(Zone 8a)

Sandy, there are all types, many, many species of palms.

Try going to DG plant guides and put palm in as common name.

I know one common wild variety is the sabal.

Becky Jr, I am from McAllen, TX.

IT IS ZONE 9 or 10 depending on what time of day it is :P

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Couldn't find it there either. The palm I am talking about looks like fronds coming out of the ground. Never gets a trunk like Baja's pic

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

#1 thanks for thinking of me! #2 I found a link referencing native palms of tx gulf coast (not sure if they really are native and not just naturalized), they mention 2 varieties of sabal palm. Sabal mexicana http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/62088/#b

and sabal minor http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/57398/#b

I gotta shop for our trip (we leave tmrw and I hear the water is mostly clear and beach isn't completely caked with seaweed!! Yay!) but I'll check in later :)
