Holly, must be hard to lose beloved evergreens (I would be so sad to lose my dogwood), but also an opportunity to be creative in putting together a new bed! We look forward to seeing photos as everything grows in!!
Muddy, thanks for the info about Canna 'Australia'. My canna didn't make it through the winter--maybe I'll look into this one. I love the dark leaves!
Yardening continuation May 2014
Been having water pressure and plumbing problems in the new place. They are pumping the septic Monday. OMG, it was completely full! Major ick.
At least it is a nice day out. I am going to take some "before" pictures and start yardening my new yard!
I already bought a new rose to plant. Home Depot has nice roses this year. Their plants (and store in general) had been abysmal. I guess they upped their game to compete with the new Lowe's. They had a Yves St Laurent pink rose. I had admired that one for a while, but hadn't seen it available for sale. Of course, I had to bring it home with me. I was tempted by the beautiful potted gardenias, but didn't have room for another big plant in my bags. I don't drive and take the bus. They have a three bag limit. I had thee bags, one with a gorgeous rose popping out, and a new toilet seat Thursday. I did manage to fit in a couple of veggie plants. I didn't start veggies this year because I was moving.
I have to be out and about again Monday. Darn, I will miss watching and smelling them pumping the septic. At least I know where it now. I heard that Home Depot has a B2G1 free rose coupon. I signed up for their list, but didn't get one. Does anyone have a coupon that they can dmail or email? it would be an adventure taking the bus with 3 roses, but B2G1 healthy roses will be worth it. I was tempted by two romantica roses - La Traviata and La Traviata pink.
sorry, no coupon GardenQuilts, but happy shopping! We went to our H.D. yesterday for dirt and came out with a Broom shrub that Harry fell in love with and 2 near black petunias that I "needed"
Holly, you guys do such a nice job with all your plantings
Muddy, I love your Australian cannas too!! glad they came back again this year for you
Aspen, tell Mike he did a fabulous job on the urns, wow! they are really nice.
we had a great day of rain yesterday, which was perfect timing for our newly planted cherry trees and fig tree and cannas etc. We hope to get more done today. It's so beautiful, sunny, cool, no humidity. This morning I transplanted a 6-pk of coral nymph salvias into small pots and was able to get 19 mini pots with multiple plants. Growing from seed is really the way to go for certain favorites
Bec, where do you get the fish emulsion?
GQ - I have the B2G1 coupon from HomeD, but unfortunately it expired on 5/14. Currently I have one for $5 off $50 or $10 off $100 Purchase in Lawn & Garden That is good through 5/21. Send me a D-mail with your email address so I can forward it if you are interested. If I get something else good from them, I'll let you know.
Sally, can we have a new thread?
I got a chance to talk to my neighbor about her fig trees. She says they were planted in 1970 and this is the first year that all the top growth has died. She thinks the ones on the western exposure are completely dead because they had less protection from the wind.
wow... wonder how old her fig trees were on the western exposure area
planted a lot today. planted Harry's Scotch Broom 'Pomona' and got 27 basil seedlings planted out - Critter's Italian basil - one of our favorites for sure
also planted Critter's hardy geranium from last years swap, new chocolate petunias from H.D., a few more Victoria rhubarbs, 3 Turkish eggplants that I started from seed, and some Zinnia Queen Red Lime, also started from seed, which I can't wait to see bloom
Sounds like a good day, Wind! :-)
Chocolate petunias sound very nice.
new thread...go to
