I know that if you plant seeds from a hybrid plant, they will not be like the parent plant. With that in mind, are all seeds or plants that are hybrid marked as such? I have a lot of seeds that I have purchased that were not marked as hybrid, but they were not marked as heirloom or old-fashioned either. Will seeds from those plants be like those I purchased? How can I tell?

a question about seeds
Good question - I've often wondered this same thing.
I hope somebody knows the answer!

hi there
you're seeds will only come true if the same cultivar is the only plant near by.
if you have many colors of one plant you dont know what you will get. this is where new cultivars come from

My main concern is this. I have ordered a lot of seeds and some of the perennials bloom the first year. They are seeds that I would like to offer as soon as I can, but being as they are not marked, I am a bit hesitant to. I would hate to send someone seeds that turn into some undesirable plant. Any suggestions?

If I have seeds from a named hybrid or a particular colour when there are other colours of the same plant in the garden or nearby, I usually write 'from' and whatever the name of the hybrid is, or colour flower I got the seed from. I find Dianthus, Aquilegia, Lupin and Linaria give a mixture of colours in the seedlings, and I'm quite happy with that.
