Suggestions for trees that block sand & give privacy

Hello everyone!

I live in the Palm Springs area and need to plant some trees that give privacy and block the wind. More than the wind - I need to block the fine sand that comes with that wind. I've heard Italian Cypress is good for that and it grows well in the desert. Can't find much more on the subject but I found this cool site! Any help would be most appreciated!!!
