We had a landscaper (about 7-9) years ago who planted Nandina in many places in our garden. A few are taller and thinner and the others are somewhat shorter & bushy....... They all get the red berries (which I've just read are poisonous)......

Right now they all look like they bit the dust..... I'm right outside of Baltimore & we did have quite a bit of snow this season. We've never had a problem with them before. I've cut back a few scraggly branches - but that's about it.

To save money - is there something I can do? Should I cut them back? We also noticed that several have a white spot, about the size of 1/2 a dime.....

Thanks so much for any information you can give me....

You can sort of test the branches. Just scrape off some "bark" from the branches. IF you see green, the Nandina should come back. If you don't, scrape off further down the plants until you come to green. You can safely trim those plants back, wherever there is a branch/trunk that shows no green. It is dead tissue. Of course, you can also trim the Nandina just to keep it in a form or size you want.

I am not sure what the white spots are. Can you post pictures?
