Lucky me, I get to go to Paulgrows house. Allen park, Mi.
Let me tell you this guy can cook. Paul and his DW are cooking fresh , turkey and capons, and the usual. I am bringing pies, pumpkin for sure but havent decided on another kind yet. There should be 12 of us, Can't wait. What are you all doing?
Where is thanksgiving Dinner???
It's here, right here at my house, I just don't know when yet!!! Probably Wednesday night so people can go deer hunting on Thursday and to in-laws. Don't know for sure what we're having yet, either roast beef and a capon or roast beef and parmesean chicken breasts - do you see a theme here??
first time we're having it here, Mom has finally given up 'ownership' of holidays. (we live right next door, so she'll be here)
This will be the first time my sister and her kids won't be here, they are finally free to go to her DH families house.
I usually do 85-90 percent of the cooking anyway, I just love to cook for holidays, so now the only extra thing going is finding seating here for everyone.
Its here at my house-got my farmgrown homefed fresh turkey!
A big tom weighing in at 27.7 -$35.00 but well worth the extra money. We tried farm grown turkeys about 8 years ago and have gotten one every year after that-lotz better taste than a store bought turkey!
My baby sis and her family will be here for the day-so im figuring the total will be-16 counting girlfriendz and boyfriendz this year!
My boyz wont be eating much-cuz its WRESTLING season!!!!
oh yeah I cheated I ordered 9 pies from a school fundraiser...dutchapple and carmel apple and 2 different berry pies and pecan and pumpkin and they all look so darn good that day!!! When they added it up-ouchiewawa!!!
Happy Pre-Thankzgiving

I agree.... I only buy freshed dressed Amish turkeys and have for the past ten years... they are well worth the extra costs.
No telling what they inject into those 39 cent a pound birds you see advertised from the big super markets.
Probably used motor oil to make them juicy :)
Happy Thanksgiving
Paul
Paul,
:( tut tut
We will be together after the holidays as we are always working and can't get time off. We do manage to grab a few hours for Christmas Eve but that's all' Weather permitting, somehow I'm preparing a "Deep Fried Turkey"for our family'
Has anyone here other than Martha Stewart tried this technique??? First time for everything, lol' Any tips, serious tips,I should say, lol' I've had sooo many nightmares just thinking about it'' Sis'
Sis, My husbands boss cooked one for the guys last year. He said it was delicious. Be careful putting the turkey in the oil he said that was the hardest part, well not really hard just be careful. Said the turkey was really juicy.. Good Luck...Meems
I suppose we will be going to our son's house in Marietta. We had it here for many years but as the family grew it seems more convenient for most of the family to gather there, less travel for them. Last year there were 22, we always enjoy these get togethers.
Deep fried is good, but I prefer the old fashioned way.
We are taking to the road to TN with our cajun feast of deep fried turkey and also maybe a "tur-duck-in" if we can afford one! Turduckins are a boneless turkey stuffed (in the cavity) a boneless duck, stuffed with a chicken stuffed with a seafood dressing..mmmmmmmmm! Can't wait! Are you ready Dave and Trish???hehehehehe

Turkey on the old smoker grill...Yum-Yum! Tried the fried and the baked but that smoke makes it taste better and Chicken n'dressing and most of all Chicken n'dumplings! And don't forget the tater salad and pecan pies and carrot cake and I'm gone to the kitchen cause I just got hungry!
All the kids and G'kids will be here too! Whew! Is it 6:00 pm Thanksgiving day yet?
Cheers and Happy Thanksgiving!
Rebecca
It's at my house and you're all invited. Okay, slight exageration . . but it is at my house. Which is rather interesting because I'm the only woman in the family that works full-time. grrrr,,,it's okay though. I get lots of help from my DH and AngelSong. No turkey though. A BIG roast chicken..my family doesn't like turkey at all.
Thanksgiving is up in the air for us this year. My new grand daughter Amber Mae will come into the world on Nov.19
and the doctor is not sure my daughter will be able to be home for Thanksgiving as she is having a c-section. She has a problem with her heart and they may want to keep an eye on her for a few days,so we will either bring dinner and pies to her house if she gets to come home or we will bring Thanksgiving dinner to her and her husband in the hospital. We will have our 4 yr old GS here with us for a few days while his mommy is in the hospital. Either way I will make sure that everyone has a Thanksgiving feast.
We are going out to dinner at an all-you-can-eat place since Mom and DH can't cook their way out of a paper bag and my Doctor has told me to do NOTHING. Last year I cooked everything and it was really good too. No leftovers or planned overs either to pick on this year :<((((( Will have DH pickup a couple of pies at the local good bakery though, already ordered them. Where's the homemade ice cream? Lani
every year for about 5 years when our families were less settled,I had the Thanksgiving and Christmas at my house. My mother would come and spend the night to help me with all the preparatory work, baking, chopping, precooking(gee, how did we do it?)Then all _ _ _ _ broke loose!I was in an auto accident that put me down for the count(15 years ago). Now my brother has a sweet wife, and a big house, and he wants everyone to come. I'm going to take some pies I bought at the Lord's acre,(I froze them)There will be enough food to feed the masses, and we will all take home "Doggie bags". After we've eaten all we want, then it will become dog food.Man and "some beasts" will all be Thankful!
My sister-in-law and I managed to wrestle dinner responsibilities from my MIL this year.
Menu includes deep-fried or smoked turkey (my BIL is stil deciding - I'm pushing for smoked because I think it has more flavor...) And a country ham. I'm bringing all the sides and desserts - green beans, mashed potatoes, dressing (oyster and plain), plenty of giblet gravy, congealed salad, devilled eggs, broccoli and rice casserole, fried apples; and for dessert, fried peach pies (if DH gets time to make them), plus pecan and chess pies.
They'll have to roll us home. But SIL and I are doing the final Christmas shopping the day after, so I figure we'll walk off some of the damage we'll do on Thursday :)
We're all (14 or so of us) going to Mother and brother's home. They have the biggest kitchen and open great room so everyone has room to gather and the cook (me) doesn't get stuck in the kitchen. We have a 24# fresh turkey, a ham, homemade rum cake, punkin pies, mashed potaoes, greens, sausage-sage stuffing and more. I'll be making my late father's homemade holiday eggnog with bourbon, rum and brandy! Needless to say this is only made for Thanksgiving and Christmas. It has been made every year of my entire memory. I can hardly wait, this is by far my favorite holiday. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!!

Every year we have all the family and friends for Thanksgiving dinner. Well last year I went into the kitchen to see if I could give my wife a hand and found her bent over the sink crying and in real pain. It was the first indication of a serious health problem that has plagued her (us) alll year. This year will be the first time in many years that we'll have to give up the tradition. One of our sons is carrying his family to Disney World and I feel good about that. They'll be doing something that the grandkids will remember. The other two sons will be around but will have dinner at their inlaws and probable spend time with us during the day and I look forward to that. My wife is an excellent cook and I have been missing her cooking all year and will definite miss the tradition this year. My thoughts are with people in similar circumstances. Remember all you sons and daughters to call your parents and love ones that might me experiencing lonliness if they won't be with you.
The fried turkey is good. Our menu is usually ham. The Halminton brand is best. My wife cooks it in brownnags with a bottle of wine and a stick of butter and it cooks all night. Usually wakes me up about 5 am with this wonderful smell all in the house.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM THE BRYANS
GRC
You and the wife come on over to my house for Thanksgiving
The more the merrier.
Paul
Paul thanks for the invite. I bet it will be a good meal and a good time also. The medication my wife is on is working according to the test and she will be on it until Juy of next year and then maybe things will be back to normal.
no plans here. Working outside if it's nice and not muddy
CoCo: you come to my house! "T" :)
Thanks SLEDDER,wish we could. Might go into CoCoSeed's for Thanksgiving and help DD. She is having surgery this week and will be on crutches for 2-3 months. For me,Thanksgiving is too far away yet for me. I have enough things to do between now and then. Been having rain so can't do anything in the yard so if it's nice and half way decent to work outside, then will be staying home and get some things done around here that need to be done.
The Place: Deer Camp!
The Menu: Depends on what we shoot!
By then we've usually bagged our limit so we eat venison for Thanksgiving. If not, Mom has Turkey for back-up...haven't had to use it yet;)
Meems,I hope you don't mind that I intrude on your territory her, but wanted to share this will all of you that was in one of my newletters this morning.
A Thanksgiving Poem:
Twas the night of Thanksgiving, but I just couldn't sleep
I tried counting backwards, I tried counting sheep.
The leftovers beckoned - the dark and white,
but I fought the temptation with all of my might.
Tossing and turning with anticipation,
the thought of a snack became inflatuation.
So,I raced to the kitchen, flung open the door
and gazed at the fridge, full of goodies galore.
I gobbled up turkey and buttered potatoes,
puckles and carrots,beans and tomatoes.
I felt myself swelling so plump and so round,
till all of a sudden, I rose off the ground.
I crashed through the ceiling, floating into the sky
With a mouthful of pudding and a handful of pie
But, I managed to yell as I soared past the trees.....
happy eating to all-pass the cranberries, please!!
Well, we will go to my moms at 1 for "lunch" (a huge feast) my brother, sister & grandmother will be there. We have to eat & run to go to MIL house for yet another dinner at 3 (I would like to talk MIL into making it around 5 so I can spend some time with MY family). I keep offering to hold Thanksgiving at my house, but Mom and MIL are not ready to give up yet. Me & DH argue about this every year - he wants to go to his moms & I want to go to my moms. (although he doesn't visit his parents very often - I see them much much more than he does, I attend the family get togethers with our children, monthly visits to see grandma & grandpa, etc - all without DH). I am VERY close with my family & want to spend the holiday with them. He is not very close to his family. I guess he thinks he make up during the holidays. anyway, I will be thinking of my family anyway!
Well it will be over the river and throught the woods to Grandmothers house we go. Grandmother in in her late 80's and we lost Grandpa this year so this may be our last year with her.
She has become very frail since Grandpa is gone, The whole family will be there, so that make 33 of us. We all each bring a dish and desert so the cooking is not hard on Grandma.
We may go in the night before and stay so we can put the turkey and ham in for her.
This is what we have done for nine years now, so when Grandma is gone I am not sure who will host it.
Happy Thanksgiving to all.

CoCo, That is a classic!!!!!!!!!Love it. Meems
