What good are June bugs?

Rat bait that kills predators that eat dead rats can kill owls, hawks and dogs that eat the rats, read the box, about half of the rat baits on the market are generation 2 baits developed for desert islands but the mfgrs said hey we could make more money if we got them on the shelf in stores.

Check Audobon Society for more information. I've gone to traps in the greenhouse, and predator encouragement, have about wiped out the local rats.

Gypsi I had no idea. I only put bait in my attic as a preventative not anywhere else. I need to buy an animal cage so I can trap the cats that poop in my yard. My doxie loves to eat it and I don't own a cat. grrrrr
I did buy some no dog poop signs for my yard and they should be here soon. My neighbor has a black lab and it chooses my yard to do its business. It leaves many and huge piles. I am tired of it and hope the signs will help.

I would invest in a few firecrackers myself, and catch him visiting...

MMMMM that sounds like a great idea. My neighbor went from catching to shooting them with bb's. I don't agree with that as he says it don't hurt them but how would he feel if they could shoot him?

I want to scare them not hurt them. It is the owners fault not theirs

Darn just remember against the law for me to set off firecrackers :(....Also against the law for dogs to run free but I would be the one going to jail.

Where you are yes- besides the drought wouldnt be good to shoot the Black Cats- might get a few flameless poppers? BBs can get under the skin- or put out eyes. He quit catching because it did no good. Electric fences arent illegal- chuckl, but they know when the fence is turned off. You need one of those water sprinklers attached to a motion sensor...

Too funny guys! My great grandma used to put old pickle jars half full of water around the yard to keep neighborhood dogs out. I don't know if that in particular worked, but we never had a problem with them :)

My pitcher plants love em or should I say they love my pitcher plants.

I feed the feral cat and have watched him drag 9 inch rats out of my garden, since I got him ratting I haven't had a rat in my attic. But in the attic is the only place I will put rat bait and I am careful what kind. I store chicken feed in a metal trash can in the shed near the coop, outdoors, don't put more than a day's feed in the coop at a time, and I just put a days worth of sunflower seeds in the bird feeder. My dog and cat feed is stored indoors in plastic trashcans with lids in a rollout kitchen cabinet cart.

My best defense against rats is my dogs (back yard) and that feral cat out front. I also closed rat's grand central highway under my roof turbine vent with half inch hardware cloth stapled over it. And I watch for tunnels near the foundation. The greenhouse has traps, it is very attractive in winter... Being aware of what draws them really helps, but because I value my predators I am careful with baits. I have a redtailed hawk and a cooper's hawk nesting nearby, not sure what they are catching to eat, but hope one of them will help out with my diamondbacked water snake this weekend, she's over 4 ft long and needs to go, if I can get something to catch her once I evict her from my pond.

Went out to spread pecan shells around the trees as the cats don't like the sharp pieces. Grrrrr I stepped in a huge pile of dog poop. Really ticked me off.

Something has to give. The sprinkler would work but when my doxie is in her yard we can't have it on. She is in a huge play yard.

My dog was 6 months when she was given to me. Within 3 weeks she got parvo. 1900 dollars later and it was touch and go for a very sick puppy. She was (no longer) a friends she got at 6 weeks supposedly for me and kept till 6 months and not vaccinated properly. I have a petition I want neighbors to sign for enforcement of loose dogs and animals. It is time to get signatures.

What did the pickle jars with water do?

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

There would have been no poo scent for them to pile onto- like a cheap 'bitter apple' deterrent is my guess- and you would only need it when doxie was inside wouldnt you? Steel wool if your holes are smaller works also on mice...plastic tubs only work indoors- many a squirrel has destroyed my plastic lids in an hour, so its a steel plate on my bins outside. Black Pepper maybe? Deters dogs and fleas but draws ants. But maybe you could put round the perimeter like for a gator and dog would lose sense of smell when he crossed the pepper scent?

Local solutions for loose dogs and cats where I live are coyotes and neighbors with guns, not nice but I don't find poop in the yard or have to deal with contagious diseases and bugs. My dogs are fenced out back. a slingshot is what my customer is using to keep a blue heron from stealing his koi. Well that and a lot of fishing line crisscrossing his pond

I like the steel wool solution also tin can lids for mouse holes. The plastic cans are in the kitchen, I have an old steel trashcan with a tight lid in the shed for outdoor feed.

ilovejesus99, my great grandmother swore the jars repelled dogs. Don't ask me why, I never second guessed the woman! LOL

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Becky I googled it and looks like we are going to try it. David has saved alot of glass jars and I am game for anything. It is suppose to work for cats too.

We are going to the TNLA Texas Nurserymen and Landscapers Association show in August and I sure will be looking for something then. We tried Cayenne pepper but didn't last long enough to really help and it wasn't cheap. I am sure nothing is but hope if I use anything long enough it may steer them somewhere else.

Here is the signs I bought

The same neighbor is why I didn't have a dog for over 3 years. Her one dog (bloodhound) got out and came in my yard and attacked my dog a chi-weenie. He didn't weigh but 7 lbs. Bite him and tore a chunk from his rear muscle. She and her insurance refused to pay. 400 dollars.
I try to get along but this is ridiculous as I don't have a fence and she does but lets the dog out front and it uses my yard. If my doxie is loose I am with her or David is. She is not allowed out of our sight. And her play yard is a huge kid play yard with 2 extra panels. The one in the other picture I posted.

By the way- is the pooper wearing his collar and tags?

Fort Worth, TX

My neighbor's old pit bull never harmed my dogs but insisted on pooping in my yard for a few years. I calmly got a shovel and moved it to their yard right by the driveway. She got old and died (at 19) after they moved to the country

I would be having a pow wow with my neighbor if I were you.. That is completely ridiculous!!

Hope the jars help.. Let us know! I am having an issue with my inlaws' chihuahua lately so I may try a jar in my flowerbed he likes to use as his toilet.
