This spider and her sisters are living in my kitchen behind the washing machine.. I'm not scared if spiders but this one makes me quite uneasy!! Should I be worried? I know it's not a black widow because Iive in the UK but is looks more like a real one than a false one.. Your thoughts appreciated!
Help! What is this spider in my kitchen??
This is a cobweb/comb-footed spider in the genus Steatoda, possibly Steatoda grossa. Some spiders in this genus are referred to as 'false widow' spiders - see http://wiki.britishspiders.org.uk/index.php5?title=False_Widow_Spiders They can give a painful but not dangerous bite, but usually only if you were to pick one up carelessly.
