Yardening 8 April 2014 "Better late than never"

Lititz, PA(Zone 6b)

Wow Holly, beautiful bed! I love the use of native rock. Rock like that lines most of our beds but I don't have any cool terraces like that, well done!

Thanks Ric built the wall both the older back section and the newer curved section that was added a few years ago. I am still working on the plantings for it.
There is a curved stone walkway on the other side

Wow, such gorgeous hellebores in that bed.

Well, my in-ground cannas survived!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

That is great SSG, In our area we always need to pull them the few that have been missed are always rotted the next spring. I know a few people in our area that over winter theirs in the ground but I just can't seem to do it. Our yard is pretty wet in the winter and I quite often if it is the wet ground rather than the winter temp.

Glad to hear it, SSG! I seem to be a few days behind you--waiting to see if the canna lily you gave me survived!!

Just saw leaf babies this morning on my Gallo Red blanketflower, and also on my chocolate Joe Pye Weed--yay!

Also think I have located my hostas Guacamole and Loyalist--fingers crossed I am right. (They are in the midst of spreading Lily of the Valley, so I'm not entirely sure, given the number of similar looking sprouts shooting up.)

Things have been really growing while we were away. The GH looks like a lawn of annuals. I'm glad I took the time to clean up the hellobores before leaving they look great.
I've also started turning the veggie garden. Rather than try to tackle the whole thing as I walk by I turn 3-5 rows and move on. The soil is so well conditioned 1 turning is all that is required. I will tili any amendments in with the Mantis and be ready for planting.

It looks great, Ric! Those hellebores are just gorgeous!

I spent the morning rearranging more plants. The loss of 2 neighbors' trees--one last summer and one a few weeks ago--have really readjusted my light levels. My former shade garden is now part sun, and a former part sun spot is now full sun. I also lost morning sun in my right roses bed--now it's part sun. :-( On the other hand, some other areas in the back that used to be dark shade are now morning sun, so that is helpful.

Almost ready to do some clean up in the yard, then do clean up in the house, which has been sadly neglected while I've worked on the yard! :-o

ssg- that's great! I've been wondering about mine

amazing Ric!

Catmint, I'd think more morning sun is good for roses. But I'm Queen of Blackspot so whaddoIknow...as for house cleaning....pfffft

thanks, Sally! Unfortunately the new morning sun spots are on the small side... :-( I definitely wish I had more morning sun!

Sally, it might be time for a new thread already. We've been a chatty bunch. :)
