That is a wonderful story Ric! He sounds like he was a pretty amazing man.
Sally and Holly, have you started your castor beans yet?
Yes, I have and they are putting out their first true leaves.
Oops, I need to get started on this asap. I'm so late with all of my tropicals this year.
Just put Castor Beans in 2 pots outside. There are too many in each pot, but I'll separate them when the time comes. My winter sown seeds are starting to show which made it and which are slow or not happening. This year the Portulaca, Black Peony Poppies and Magic Fountain Delphinium did OK. Agastache Cana and Strawberry Daqueri not showing at all!
I've always been afraid to grow castor beans... guess they are no different than growing poinsettias
I think castors are more dangerous than poinsettias. I'm afraid with kids, any bean looks worth tasting. Geoff -palmbob- did a long article about plant toxicity.
Sally, I still think a Castor Bean plant would be cool in my front yard. The color would be great behind the Russian sage.
Oh yes Robin, that would be great. Just keep an eye out for roving bands of small hungry children... If I find any Castor in my stash I'll pot a few for you.
I need to do my direct sewing to the garden yet, things like carrots beans, and red beets.
Since this season is almost over does anyone feel we need a continuation?
I'd be gad to start one if needed.
yes, a new thread would be great, Ric! thanks!
