I recently brought home with me some black sapote (digyna diospyros) seeds from Mexico and have germinated them. I am aware that they don't survive in California's 9b hardiness zone and I was thinking whether it was possible to cross them with texan persimmons. By this I mean cross pollinating black sapote and texan persimmon trees to produce a hybrid seed. Is this possible? What kind of fruiting tree might it produce (!) if any? A better question might be whether black sapotes can be hybridized with a more hardy persimmon variety and whether this has ever been attempted?
Black Sapote Hybrid?
I have the same question. Have you learned anything?
