Till now, I had not seen this in my garden. Today, I noticed it on my Sauropus plant. I removed it from the leaf and took pictures of it. In this collage, I added an inset showing my thumb for scale.
Tiny shield-like bug- what is this?
Looks like one of the wax scale insects in the genus Ceroplastes - see http://arthurevans.wordpress.com/2010/09/19/tipping-the-scales/ for an example.
Hi Dinu! I had that bug last year in large numbers. My method of control was to carry a small open container to catch them as i flicked them off the branches and leaves . My gosh, they were everywhere and multiplied quickly. I haven't seen any this year so far, but now that you remind me, i'll keep an eye out.
Flap, thanks. The example is indeed a close one.
vitrsna, I did not find that again.
