small oval-round light green & black spotted bug 6 legs (I think no more than 6 seen) has wings only visible when disturbed but have not seen it fly even when disturbed. About the length of a bb but not as tall. Several in house. Changes to mostly black after falling to the ground and examining. It also retracts feet into body balling up in oval shape..."playing possum".

Possibly a carpet beetle, but difficult to be certain from this image...
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. :) I am not sure if it is solved but in searching images online it most looks like a furniture carpet beetle or varied carpet beetle (anthrenus flavipes or anthrenus verbasci) leaning towards the later due to the zig zag pattern. I included a picture found online which seems to have part of his wing sticking out the back (not typically seen like that). I can't find any larvae so far but I have found at least 4 alive, and one dead adult beetles. Northern California. No carpet in home but plenty of furniture clothes and air ducts etc.
