That is an interesting plant, but you seem to grow a lot of interesting plants!

WHOOP!

I have my first iris bloom EVER! I have struggled with irises for years and gave up on them for a while. All I could ever get was foliage or they would die. Now I have bunches from y'all that are green and growing, but apparently while I was in San Antonio yesterday (showing my dogs), one has bloomed! Didn't find a marker but I didn't look too hard so I don't know who gave it to me but I am doing a happy dance for sure.

Tri;sh Ann gave white irises about 2 yrs ago.

My apple tree is blooming, it is a very small tree that was supposed to be four different trees but most of the grafts failed. Sigh. Still beautiful blooms that smell lovely.

Do you get apples to set in TX?

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

There are some low chill requirement varieties recommended by TAMU. Two that I remember are "Anna" and "Ein Shimer"

My white iris is blooming too. I'll get pix tomorrow.

Yes, we got a few last year. I actually removed about 15 or so when they were small because of the tree age/size. I just couldn't make myself take them all. Fuji, Ein Schimer, Dorsett Golden, Gala, Granny Smith. There are more being developed each year. I didn't want two apple trees worth of fruit which is why I went with a multi grafted tree, only to read later that they don't historically do well. Of course the apple I like least is making it. There are a couple that are self fruitful but still perform better with another apple for cross pollination.
Funny story, my ex and I spent a couple days thinning branches on his mother's apple tree that was 60 or 70 years old and had never been taken care of. She was fussing that the apples were getting smaller and smaller. So I climbed into the tree with a saw and we opened the tree up, no small feat. The next year she called complaining that she couldn't keep up with all the huge apples and why did she let us talk her into trimming the tree.

Can't wait to see the pics Marty.

Here you go, Joy. I got this from Trish Ann at the RU. She called them cemetery irises. Mine is in a pot. The hardest part of growing to me, is "where to plant it".

I love white iris. I don't grow any here. How long do the blooms last in TX heat?

Arlington, TX

Seems odd that the only plants blooming are all from the dry regions of south Africa but at least its something.

The first one lasted about three days I think. I have two more that opened yesterday evening, we will see how long they last. Several come up on the bloom stalk so that you have a longer bloom time per stalk.

Cheryl, the irises bloom in the early Spring before it gets hot. Each plant produces several bloom stalks and there are several blooms per stalk. As Joy says one blossom will last several days.

My multiflora petunias have begun.

Here's my 'tunias. They wouldn't load when I posted the comment.

Lots of green shoots are popping out of the ground, I just harvested some asparagus having missed the first group.
This means it is time to sign up for our spring roundup at the farm. I just put the new thread up. Hope to see you there.
