I found these empty beetle (?) husks in the pot where I have a carrot seedling growing. Wondering if anyone can tell me what it is. Doesn't look like there is any movement in the pot. I dug around in the dirt far away from the seedling and still don't see anything. I checked the interwebs and couldn't find anything there.
I had also planted a couple seedlings in another pot with another plant, and checked that pot tonight- sure enough, found a couple more of these little things. The seedlings didn't make it, but I don't know if it had anything to do with these or not. They are very small, so I used a bottle top as a reference point. Any thoughts?

Bugs on a carrot seedling?
My best guess is that these are empty puparia of a small fly. There is a carrot rust fly that can be a serious pest on carrots, but their larvae tunnel into carrot roots and would not attack seedlings. Also, their pupae are more slender than the ones you have - see Fig. 1 at http://www.aenews.wsu.edu/Mar03AENews/Mar03AENews.htm
Thank you for responding! I had looked into the carrot rust fly and didn't see any pictures that looked like what I had. Fig 1 on that link doesn't look like it either. I was thinking it had to be carrot related since whatever they are seem only to be near my carrot seedlings and where I had planted the other seedlings that died. Everything else is free of them.
