I found this in my yard last summer (2013). I live just north of Atlanta, Ga.
It was crawling on the bare dirt and, if I remember correctly, its body was approximately 1/2 inch long.
CLOSED: What is this beautiful beetle(?)
That is not a beetle, it is an immature stage of a Bug (Hemiptera). It could be an early stage of one of the Stink Bugs in the family Pentatomidae.
Ken
It is indeed a pentatomid; specifically, it is a fifth instar nymph of a Florida predatory stink bug, a beneficial species. See http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/creatures/beneficial/e_floridanus.htm
Thanks guys! I learn something new every day.
