My $.02 worth: keep the existing have/want thread, but start a new seed swap discussion thread.
"Think Spring!" SEED SWAP Sat. Feb. 15 in Frederick MD
agree with Muddy about the threads
That does seem easiest... no need for people to copy their info into a new Have/Want thread, and I think we've kept extra chatter on that thread to a minimum, so it shouldn't be confusing even to somebody just catching up.
Thanks!
Critter, I always knew that you were THAT GOOD! LOL
Hey! I want to work out the details here before starting a new thread...
The issue: Chef Lin's back room is booked from 1 to 3 on Saturday March 1, so our original time won't work on the new date. I think that gives us 2 options, without changing either the weekend or the venue.
1. Switch the time to Saturday evening, say 4 to 8 pm. Let me know if this would work for you, including whether you'd need to leave early.
2. Switch the day to Sunday March 2, maybe from 1 to 5 rather than noon to 4. Let me know what time (if any) works for you Sunday.
Either of these options will increase the cost of the meal by $3.
Jill, I think I'd like the Sunday afternoon option better but either one will work for me.
If we have it on Sunday--I need to know 3 weeks in advance so i can switch my work days.
I always work a full day on Sunday. I can switch to working on Saturday.
Would hate to miss the swap...
OR--We just hold it on another weekend...
G,
I'd prefer Sunday.
Gita, so since March 2 is two weeks away, that's not enough lead time, right? So would Saturday evening work for you?
I didn't really want to a later weekend (March 8/9), since we're getting into seed-sowing time by then, and also I know there's another sticky note on Chef Lin's calendar for that weekend, although I don't know the time of that event reservation.
Muddy1, preference noted, but would you be unable to attend on Saturday evening?
I will do what I can to switch. Sometimes it is no big deal. Sometimes it's a bitch.
I can always call out--but I have never done that--so, I get written up or something..
They also take away the 8 hrs from your vacation time...I think I have a 10hr. buffer there.
My record is pretty clean.
If you know we are 100% set on the 1st-i will see what i can do asap. Please decide...
Will check here early tomorrow AM.
G.
Yes, I could come on Saturday evening.
Jill--
I will be leaving for work in an hour.
Sunday will have to work for me--as the majority seems to think so.
Sat. evening may be too hard for those that are driving a distance to get to the swap
and we may have more opt-outs for attending at all.
I will work something out....so--Sunday is OK for me. G,
We're fine with either one.
I could do Sat March 1 but could not do Sunday afternoon. I could join about 5 pm on Saturday.
I could get there at 3:30 or 4 on Sunday at the earliest.
I'm open Saturday evening.
Either day is fine with me.
Gita, sorry , I'm just now getting back on... I don't think we have consensus yet, so hope you didn't try madly to shuffle. I'd personally prefer Sat. evening but could make Sun. work.
I could do either day that weekend, I will be back to walking and driving, thank goodness.
OK, nobody else on crutches, ya hear?? We need an injury-free spring.
Either day for me
Why would the cost of the meal go up $ 3.00 from $ 15 to $ 18.00 since it was originally going to be on a Saturday anyway? I can't seem to figure that out. Are we paying for the rental of the room? Doesn't matter which day or time the swap happens. Bobbin & I are both retired & can go anytime. Sorry about all the confusion but I guess we can blame Senator Gore for the weather. (tee hee)
hitting the dinner time frame pricing, I am thinking.
Sooo--are we back to Saturday???
I really begged to do the switch today to work on Saturday.
The schedule-maker won't be in till Tuesday, but my Super
was going to see what can be done...
I will call him back tonight and tell him to wait a couple days...
Is sat. afternoon now the favorable option? You are killing me!!!!
Could we have a consensus?
G.
I think the price raise is due to the food they serve--
I remember a couple years back--they had some crabs out--but told us they were
for the dinner time--and we could not eat any...Or--it would cost $3 extra.
Maybe there are other fancier foods served at dinner as well.
Last year our lunch was $12? This year it was going to be $15.
and now the dinner time will be $18! Yikes!
Not complaining--I am sure their costs go up as well... G.
Dinner on Friday and Saturday is $3 more than lunch on those days. Sunday is $3 more for lunch or dinner. They often have additional choices on those days like crispy duck, sometimes blue crabs, etc. The snow crab is not included in the buffet price no matter when you go.
Two years ago, the cost was $12 or $14.50 with soft drink, but it was easy to forget that soft drinks were extra, and the servers had trouble keeping track of how many people were drinking coke, tea, or water, so the next year we included soft drinks to make the cost the same for everybody.
(edited to clarify -- the cost was $15 per person last year, just as it would have been if we'd been able to meet at the same time this year.)
We don't pay separately for the room, but your cost for the meal does include tax and a generous tip. :-)

Critter, my daughter and I both love Chinese food and she would like to accompany me if we decide on the Saturday dinner buffet. Unfortunately, she has volleyball practice on Sunday afternoons, so we would not be able to make it to a Sunday afternoon seed swap. In addition, she has other extracurricular obligations on Saturday afternoons, so we could not arrive before about 5 pm (that is, we could not be there early to help with bulb sorting), but would love to join in with the fun if it were in the evening.
If it ends up being on Sunday afternoon--SSG, would you still be able to go and be my wonderful seed/bulb angel?
thanks so much!
I do want to reiterate something from the top of the thread...
I know some folks might be on tight budgets, and we've all been there. If the cost of the meal might keep you from coming, please Dmail me, and we'll get you covered. I don't want anybody to miss out.
Gita, I was waiting to hear from a few people, but so far I think there are a couple people who cannot make it at all on Sunday... and a few people who would prefer Sunday but can still make it on Saturday... so Saturday evening is looking pretty good, although not yet set in stone.
Catmint, either day is fine, but I'll just be really late on Sunday. I probably won't be able to eat and will have just enough time to do the actual swap.
Critter, I didn't mean to intimate you were making any money on this or anything you so generously do for DG-ers., I did forget that the meal was a supper instead of a lunch. Anyway, whenever you schedule it would be ok here.
Sorry, Buttoneer, I think I wrote that response during a hot flash, LOL, didn't mean to sound annoyed.
I am sorry that we couldn't reschedule for the same time of day!
I'll be getting in touch with Dutch Plant Farms, but I think we can probably get the same
"special DG discount" from them. I got another email coupon from them, too, and I'll see if we can use that in conjunction with our discount.
Oooooh you poor baby. My hot flashes are over.

I've asked admin to replace the sticky so the new organization thread is the one at the top of the MAG forum. :-)
