Bug in pool and around

Kloof, South Africa

We keep finding these bugs in our pool and they often in damp areas around the garden.

Sorry can't help, now you have me interested to find out what it is.

Minot, ND

It's a type of crustacean known as an amphipod (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphipoda). They primarily are aquatic, but some species can be found on very wet/saturated soil. When this occurs, they may be known as lawn shrimp or landhoppers (http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/creatures/misc/amphipods.htm).

flapdoodle I'm happy to see shrimp in the description as when I first looked at it, it reminded me of shrimp, but since Jonathan stated it was also in damp areas in the garden, I held my guess in check. We do have them here in FL so will be watching for these.

I've never seen one but this a most interesting find with excellent knowledge from you on this.
