Hi, I'm new to this forum. I've joined as I keep finding interesting spiders in my garden and am curious to find out what species they are. I've done a search on Google to no avail. I have also looked through hundreds of images on this forum but haven't found this spider yet. I may have missed it though. So please can you help identify what this spider is?
I found it tucked behind a fence post whilst trying to repair the fence after our recent storms. It was approximately the size of a ten pence piece. The garden it is in is in the north west of England, UK.
If anymore information is required please let me know and I'll try to answer. I think the spider may have gone back to its hiding place so I could probably find it again.
Identify spider please
This appears to be an unusually dark example of an orb weaver in the genus Zygiella - see http://wiki.britishspiders.org.uk/index.php5?title=Zygiella_x-notata for a more typical example.
