This must have fallen from the almond tree under which I was doing some work. Which is this?
Yellowish caterpillar for ID
It's a tussock moth caterpillar in the family Lymantriidae - see http://www.flickr.com/photos/dinesh_valke/3825981898/ for another example (obviously, not the same species as yours).
Possible, but egg masses of these moths usually are not so linear or so densely hair-covered...
They had hatched I think when I examined again after posting that. I also checked google images and saw something similar in one image with hair-covers.
